Style Friday

I love hats. Some might say they are easier to wear in winter, or more purposeful, but I would argue that the summer hat is a must. Save your wide-brimmed straw version for the pool and pick yourself a fabulous fedora to wear around town. A snug fit is best and a shade of white is guaranteed to go with anything!

Paired with a bathing suit or a frilly dress, there is nothing that a stylish topper won't mix with.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Panama hat by J Crew.

Hat Attack raffia cloth fedora.

Eugenia Kim craig panama hat.

Summer Chic

Channel your inner bohemian chic with Rikshaw Design's brand new kurtas for women. I wore mine yesterday and by midday had decided that Catherine has designed the very best in casual chic. These are comfortable and cool and they are cut to flatter a woman, instead of hide her. I love them!

Love That Look

This is one of my favorite summer looks. Her all-white ensemble is perfectly accented with painted toes, and fabulous nude heels.

To the office, out to lunch, or on the go you can't go wrong with a similar look.

Vintage Find of the Day

How cute is this vintage mesh buckle bracelet. The rhinestone detail adds just the right amount of sparkle for day or night. Stack with with a few gold bangles or wear it all by itself and it will be equally chic.

Style Friday

A good vintage find is wildly exciting to me. My heart nearly skips a beat every time I find an item of old that is so well made that its age is totally disguised by its hand-stitching and carefully hidden plackets.

I am inspired by women who can effortlessly combine vintage pieces with current wardrobe essentials to get a look that is totally modern and chic (see above). In my quest to do the same, I have learned a few things:

* Well-made pieces have almost unlimited life spans. Judge quality by construction and fabric.

* Use your imagination. A good tailor can alter dresses and jackets and can take them from long to short in almost no time.

* Fit matters. Use a tailor to custom-fit dresses, tops and jackets for a very finished and polished look.

* Don't obsess over designer vintage labels. Many items have lost labels over the years and there are a lot of small great designers who did wonderful work, but are relatively unknown.

Not Vintage, But a Find

This amazing silk Yves Saint Laurent skirt is one of my favorite recent finds. It is a high-waisted, knee-length design with layers of gorgeous ruffles and silk rosettes. It will make its owner happy for years and can be worn with a multitude of simple, tucked-in tops. The best part, it's on sale for less than $300 (and it retailed for $1,300 or more) and it's in mint condition. Size 38 and available here.

The romper done right! Here is proof that the one-piece jumpsuit is a fabulous look for summer. Try your own version of this current trend by keeping only a few things in mind; loose and relaxed is best; steer clear of too short or too tight and definitely avoid patterns.

Think of romper as the new summer dress!

Try these:
Bow shoulder romper from the Limited.

Joie blue silk romper.

Loeffler Randall cowl neck jumper.

Molly playsuit by Topshop.
